It allows you to play with your instruments\/expression:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"55\" src=\"https:\/\/www.julien-nevo.com\/arkostracker\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/09\/testArea-1024x55.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-1020\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.julien-nevo.com\/arkostracker\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/09\/testArea-1024x55.png 1024w, https:\/\/www.julien-nevo.com\/arkostracker\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/09\/testArea-300x16.png 300w, https:\/\/www.julien-nevo.com\/arkostracker\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/09\/testArea-768x41.png 768w, https:\/\/www.julien-nevo.com\/arkostracker\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/09\/testArea-1000x53.png 1000w, https:\/\/www.julien-nevo.com\/arkostracker\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/09\/testArea-230x12.png 230w, https:\/\/www.julien-nevo.com\/arkostracker\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/09\/testArea-350x19.png 350w, https:\/\/www.julien-nevo.com\/arkostracker\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/09\/testArea-480x26.png 480w, https:\/\/www.julien-nevo.com\/arkostracker\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/09\/testArea.png 1310w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">By clicking on the keyboard notes, the currently selected instrument (in the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.julien-nevo.com\/arkostracker\/index.php\/the-instrument-and-expression-lists\/\" data-type=\"page\" data-id=\"1045\">Instrument List<\/a> at the left of the screen) plays.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">When focused, you can also use the computer keyboard to play notes (<a class=\"maxbutton-1 maxbutton maxbutton-keyboardshortcut\" href=\"javascript:void(0);\"><span class='mb-text'>qwerty<\/span><\/a>).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">There are several icons:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Use Arpeggio on\/off<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">When the toggle is on (<img decoding=\"async\" width=\"30\" height=\"25\" class=\"wp-image-1024\" style=\"width: 30px;\" src=\"https:\/\/www.julien-nevo.com\/arkostracker\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/09\/linkerArpeggioOn.png\" alt=\"\">) the instrument being played will use the selected arpeggio (which you can change in the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.julien-nevo.com\/arkostracker\/index.php\/the-instrument-and-expression-lists\/\" data-type=\"page\" data-id=\"1045\">Arpeggio list<\/a>).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">When off (<img decoding=\"async\" width=\"30\" height=\"25\" class=\"wp-image-1025\" style=\"width: 30px;\" src=\"https:\/\/www.julien-nevo.com\/arkostracker\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/09\/linkerArpeggioOff.png\" alt=\"\">) no arpeggio is use.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Use Pitch on\/off<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The same as the arpeggio, but with the pitch (on <img decoding=\"async\" width=\"30\" height=\"25\" class=\"wp-image-1029\" style=\"width: 30px;\" src=\"https:\/\/www.julien-nevo.com\/arkostracker\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/09\/linkerPitchOn2.png\" alt=\"\"> or off <img decoding=\"async\" width=\"30\" height=\"25\" class=\"wp-image-1030\" style=\"width: 30px;\" src=\"https:\/\/www.julien-nevo.com\/arkostracker\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/09\/linkerPitchOff.png\" alt=\"\">).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Used Arpeggio\/pitch number<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Below the two icons on the left are &#8220;&#8211;&#8220;. This is when no arpeggio\/pitch is selected. However, when you select either in the Arpeggio List\/Pitch List, their number is shown. This is useful for you to understand why the sound you play sounds like it does: a vibrato may be heard, a major arpeggio, etc:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"67\" height=\"39\" src=\"https:\/\/www.julien-nevo.com\/arkostracker\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/12\/testAreaSelectedArpAndPitch.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-1755\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Play note<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This button <img decoding=\"async\" width=\"60\" height=\"25\" class=\"wp-image-1032\" style=\"width: 60px;\" src=\"https:\/\/www.julien-nevo.com\/arkostracker\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/09\/linkerPlay2.png\" alt=\"\">, when clicked, will play a note, which is displayed (<img decoding=\"async\" width=\"60\" height=\"25\" class=\"wp-image-1033\" style=\"width: 60px;\" src=\"https:\/\/www.julien-nevo.com\/arkostracker\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/09\/linkerNote.png\" alt=\"\"> for example).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Activity indicator<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A small red light flashes whenever a note is played in the Test Area:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"140\" height=\"27\" src=\"https:\/\/www.julien-nevo.com\/arkostracker\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/Screenshot-2026-06-01-at-14.01.49.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-3195\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This is useful to know which context is used when a note is played: either the Test Area (in which case the small red light flashes), or the Pattern Viewer. Read more explanations <a href=\"#test-area-behavior\">here<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Monophony\/polyphony<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This toggles between monophonic <img decoding=\"async\" width=\"60\" height=\"25\" class=\"wp-image-1034\" style=\"width: 60px;\" src=\"https:\/\/www.julien-nevo.com\/arkostracker\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/09\/linkerMono.png\" alt=\"\"> and polyphonic <img decoding=\"async\" width=\"60\" height=\"25\" class=\"wp-image-1036\" style=\"width: 60px;\" src=\"https:\/\/www.julien-nevo.com\/arkostracker\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/09\/linkerPoly2.png\" alt=\"\"> behavior (detailed set-up is below). Monophonic will play the note on only one channel. Polyphonic will play every note on the next channel.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Setting up the mono\/polyphony<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This icon <img decoding=\"async\" width=\"30\" height=\"25\" class=\"wp-image-1037\" style=\"width: 30px;\" src=\"https:\/\/www.julien-nevo.com\/arkostracker\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/09\/linkerTool.png\" alt=\"\"> opens a dialog to set up how the mono\/polyphony behaves:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"360\" height=\"320\" src=\"https:\/\/www.julien-nevo.com\/arkostracker\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/09\/linkerDialog.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-1038\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.julien-nevo.com\/arkostracker\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/09\/linkerDialog.png 360w, https:\/\/www.julien-nevo.com\/arkostracker\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/09\/linkerDialog-300x267.png 300w, https:\/\/www.julien-nevo.com\/arkostracker\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/09\/linkerDialog-230x204.png 230w, https:\/\/www.julien-nevo.com\/arkostracker\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/09\/linkerDialog-350x311.png 350w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 360px) 100vw, 360px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In the monophonic section, you can select one channel where you want the instrument played. Selecting the second is the usual choice, as it is in the middle channel. The &#8220;monophonic uses cursor position&#8221; toggle, when on, will disable the monophonic selection and automatically select the same channel as where the cursor is in the Pattern Viewer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In the polyphonic section, you can select all channels on which the instrument (with the computer keyboard) plays, one after the one. In the example of the screenshot, playing notes will alternate between channel 1, 2, 3 before going back to channel 1.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"test-area-behavior\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">Test Area\/Pattern Viewer behavior<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Important:<\/strong> when the Pattern Viewer (<strong>PV<\/strong>) is focused, playing a note is using the &#8220;PV behavior&#8221;: that is, the effects that are currently used by the PV (volume, arpeggio, pitch, etc.), and using the channel where the cursor is. However, when any <strong>other panel<\/strong> is focused, playing a note uses the &#8220;Test Area behavior&#8221;: the volume is full, the arpeggio and pitch use are the selected ones, if their related icons at the bottom-left are on.
